Media - Systel covered by the leading German lighting industry magazine
- April 21, 2007
"Highlight", the leading German lighting industry magazine, reports in its latest March/April 2007 edition about the IDC2000 IC family Lighting Evaluation Kit availability and the capabilities of the IDC2000 technology.
In addition, the magazine was mailed out with Systel's supplementary flyer entitled "A Novel Family of Power Management ICs based on Digital Technology for Lighting and Building Control Applications" as well as with a CD with Systel's PDK-L3 design tool for fluorescent lighting ballast and wall control for lighting building control.

New product:
The Israeli fabless chip manufacturer Systel developed a power management chip (IDC2000) for the control of high performance low cost fluorescent lamp ballasts, offering new possibilities to the fluorescent lamp ballast manufacturers. The IDC2000 is a multi-channel digital technology system-on-chip that can be configured by the user for several power topologies and ballast control functions using the PDK-L design tool. Ballasts of fluorescent lamps of all kinds can be driven with this digital chip and also deployed for HID and LED ballasts. It is also applicable for remote controls and sensors in building management. In addition, a power line communication modem is contained on the chip, which permits communication over electricity mains. The chip can drive and operate eight loads (lamps or fixtures) independently from each other. This central ballast technology offers new possibilities for low cost and energy-savings lighting installations. The IDC2000 technology is a technology leap for the lighting market, since design costs of fluorescent lamp ballasts based on these controller chips will drop dramatically. The IDC2000 platform unites thus the features of the custom-made ASICs with those of reconfigurable FPGAs and thus makes it possible to transfer completely to digital control of fluorescent lamp ballasts. Systel also holds patents for LED control whose control methods can be implemented with the current IDC2000 chip family. Thus also this kind of application can be realized with this generation of IDC2000 chips. A developer kit (Lighting Evaluation Kit) to test the technology including the PDK-L design tool and a library of designs is available upon request from Systel. The user can test his power circuit topology and the configurability of chip during the design stage with this kit.
This wording corresponds to the text under the CD: Systel's PDK software is enclosed as a supplement to this edition of HIGHLIGHT. The CD provides an overview of the developer kit and the chip's possible designs. If the CD is not enclosed with your HIGHLIGHT, contact the publishing house for a further copy (as long as the supply lasts). Further information about the kit and the chip's technology can be found at Systel's website www.systelpower.com.
